Cheese Strata
- 10 slices bread (any kind), buttered on both sides
- 6 eggs
- 1 lb. bacon, cooked crispy and broken coarsely
- 4 1/2 c. milk or half and half
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1 tsp. pepper
- 1/2 tsp. dry mustard or 1 tsp. prepared mustard
- 1 lb. shredded yellow American/Monterey Jack cheese
- Butter a 9 x 13-inch glass, rectangular baking pan.
- Add buttered bread to cover bottom and sides of pan, crusts along edge. (Do not break bread slices.)
- Sprinkle cheese evenly over the bread.
- Sprinkle crumbled bacon evenly over the cheese.
- In a separate bowl, beat eggs, salt, pepper, mustard and milk.
- Pour over bread, cheese and bacon to cover all.
- Refrigerate overnight (at least 8 hours).
- Bake at 325u0b0 for 1 hour to 1 hour and 15 minutes.
- Let set 5 to 6 minutes.
- Serve hot.
- Serves 10 to 12 people.
