Foley'S Fashnachts

  1. Dissolve yeast in warm water and add 4 teaspoons sugar.
  2. In another saucepan, put warm milk and 3 cups flour; add yeast and let raise.
  3. In yet another saucepan, put 2 cups milk, 2 cups sugar, 1/2 cup Crisco, 1/2 cup butter and 2 teaspoons salt.
  4. Dissolve until lukewarm and add the eggs.
  5. Add this to yeast mix, which has become spongy.
  6. Add, slowly, the remaining 5 pounds flour.
  7. Let raise until double its size (takes about 1 hour).
  8. Roll out and cut out center and cut into small squares.
  9. Let rise again (about 1 hour). Fry in about 3 pounds Crisco until golden brown.
