Chow Mein
- 1/4 c. butter or margarine
- 1 lb. onion, sliced
- 1 head celery
- salt and pepper
- 2 c. cooked meat (pork, chicken, etc.)
- 2 Tbsp. cold water
- 1 1/2 c. hot water
- 1 can bean sprouts, drained or 1 can Chinese mixed vegetables, drained
- 2 Tbsp. cornstarch
- 1 Tbsp. soy sauce
- 1 tsp. sugar
- Melt butter or margarine in pot.
- Add 1 pound onions, sliced. Cook until soft.
- Add 1 head of celery, cut in pieces, salt and pepper and 1 1/2 cups hot water.
- Cook, covered, until celery is soft.
- Add 1 can bean sprouts, drained (or Chinese mixed vegetables, drained) and 2 cups cooked meat.
- Mix well and cook 5 minutes.
- Combine cold water, cornstarch, soy sauce and sugar. Add to meat and stir lightly.
- Cook a few minutes.
- Serve over rice and noodles.
