Carol'S Onion Beef Au Jus

  1. In a Dutch oven, over medium-high heat, brown roast on all sides in oil; drain.
  2. In a large skillet, saut onions in 2 teaspoons butter until tender.
  3. Add water, soy sauce, soup mix, garlic and browning sauce (if desired).
  4. Pour over roast.
  5. Cover and bake at 325u0b0 for 2 1/2 hours or until meat is tender.
  6. Let stand for 10 minutes.
  7. Before slicing, return meat to pan juices. Slice bread in half lengthwise.
  8. Cut into 3-inch sections.
  9. Spread remaining butter over bread.
  10. Place on a baking sheet.
  11. Broil 4 to 6-inches from the heat for 2 to 3 minutes or until golden brown. Top with beef and onions.
  12. Sprinkle with cheese.
  13. Broil 4 to 6-inches from heat for 1 to 2 minutes or until cheese is melted. Serve with pan juices.
  14. Yield:
  15. 12 servings.
