Oatmeal Carmelitas
- 50 (14 oz. pkg.) light candy caramels
- 1/2 c. evaporated milk
- 2 c. all-purpose flour
- 2 c. quick cooking oats
- 1 1/2 c. firmly packed brown sugar
- 1 tsp. soda
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1 c. melted oleo
- 1 c. butterscotch bits
- 1 c. chopped nuts
- Melt caramels in evaporated milk in heavy saucepan.
- Cool slightly.
- Combine remaining ingredients except butterscotch bits and nuts in large mixing bowl.
- Press half of crumbs into bottom of greased 13 x 9-inch pan.
- Bake at 350u0b0 for 10 minutes.
- Remove from oven.
- Sprinkle with butterscotch bits and nuts.
- Spread carefully with caramel mixture.
- Sprinkle with remaining crumb mixture.
- Bake 15 to 20 minutes longer or until golden brown.
- Chill 1 to 2 hours before cutting into bars.
