Old-Fashioned Fruitcake

  1. Combine fruits and nuts with molasses and grape juice.
  2. Cream margarine and brown sugar until fluffy.
  3. Beat in eggs, one at a time; add to fruit mixture.
  4. Sift flour with salt, baking soda and spices and stir into fruit and egg mixture.
  5. Stir until well mixed.
  6. Pour batter into two well-greased loaf pans or a tube pan that has been lined with greased foil.
  7. Bake at 275u0b0 for about 2 1/2 hours (about 4 1/2 hours in a tube pan) or until toothpick inserted in cakes comes out clean.
  8. Check often but do not underbake.
  9. Cool cake thoroughly.
  10. Peel off foil from tube cake before wrapping in a cloth moistened with wine or grape juice.
