Christmas Candy Canes
- 3 c. sugar
- 1/2 c. water
- 3/4 c. light corn syrup
- 1/4 tsp. cream of tartar
- 1 tsp. peppermint flavoring
- 3/4 tsp. red vegetable coloring
- In saucepan combine sugar, water, syrup and cream of tartar until the sugar is dissolved.
- Put 1/2 of this syrup into another saucepan.
- Boil both saucepans until syrup reaches 260u0b0 on your candy thermometer.
- Do not stir!
- Add 1/2 teaspoon peppermint to each saucepan.
- Add food coloring to one pan only!
- Oil enamel or marble table and pour syrup on it to cool.
- Like taffy, you stretch and pull and form each color into ropes of red and white.
- Then twist them around again and again.
- Form into candy canes.
- Let them harden on an oiled surface.
- Then hang them in the Christmas tree.
