Crisscross Strudel

  1. Mix together the flour, baking soda, baking powder and salt; set aside.
  2. Mix together the vanilla and milk; set aside.
  3. Cream together the sugar and shortening until creamy.
  4. Add egg; mix thoroughly.
  5. Add flour mixture alternately with milk mixture. Knead with hands just until mixed.
  6. Add more flour if sticky. Grease jelly roll pan lightly; set a small portion of dough aside for topping.
  7. Spread remaining dough in pan, using your hands.
  8. Be sure to cover sides of pan.
  9. Pour filling into pan.
  10. Roll remaining dough; cut into strips.
  11. Place strips across filling, creating a crisscross effect.
  12. Bake at 375u0b0 for approximately 40 minutes, or until lightly browned.
