Crisscross Strudel
- 1/2 c. shortening
- 1 c. sugar
- 1 egg
- 3 c. flour
- 1 tsp. baking powder
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 1/2 c. milk
- 2 cans pie filling (your favorite kind)
- 1 tsp. baking soda
- Mix together the flour, baking soda, baking powder and salt; set aside.
- Mix together the vanilla and milk; set aside.
- Cream together the sugar and shortening until creamy.
- Add egg; mix thoroughly.
- Add flour mixture alternately with milk mixture. Knead with hands just until mixed.
- Add more flour if sticky. Grease jelly roll pan lightly; set a small portion of dough aside for topping.
- Spread remaining dough in pan, using your hands.
- Be sure to cover sides of pan.
- Pour filling into pan.
- Roll remaining dough; cut into strips.
- Place strips across filling, creating a crisscross effect.
- Bake at 375u0b0 for approximately 40 minutes, or until lightly browned.
