Ham And Onion Squares
- 1 package (1/4 ounce) active dry yeast
- 1/4 cup warm water (110u0b0 to 115u0b0)
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup shortening
- 1/2 cup sour cream
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup chopped onion
- 1/4 cup butter, cubed
- 2 cups diced fully cooked ham
- 2 large eggs, lightly beaten
- 1/2 cup sour cream
- 2 tablespoons minced chives
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon caraway seeds
- In a small bowl, dissolve yeast in water; set aside. In a large bowl, combine the flour, sugar and salt; cut in shortening until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Add yeast mixture. Combine sour cream and eggs; stir into flour mixture until a smooth dough forms (do not knead). Cover and chill overnight.
- Roll dough to fit a greased 15x10x1-in baking pan. Form a rim around edges; set aside. In a skillet, saute onion in butter until tender. Remove from the heat; stir in remaining topping ingredients. Spread over dough. Bake at 350u0b0 for 25 minutes or until golden brown.
