Spaghetti Sauce
- 1/2 to 1 lb. ground beef
- 1/2 c. finely chopped onion
- 2 cloves garlic, crushed or 1/4 tsp. garlic powder
- 2 tsp. sugar
- 1 Tbsp. salt
- 1/4 tsp. oregano
- 1/2 tsp. Italian seasoning
- 1 1/2 tsp. dried basil leaves
- 1/2 tsp. fennel seed
- 1/4 tsp. pepper
- 2 Tbsp. parsley
- 1 large (28 oz.) can tomatoes or 1 qt. home canned or frozen tomatoes or crushed tomatoes
- 1 (12 oz.) can tomato paste
- 1/2 c. water
- Brown first three ingredients over medium heat until well browned, 20 minutes.
- Drain off fat. Add spices.
- Stir well.
- Add tomato paste, crushed tomatoes and water, mashing tomatoes with a wooden spoon. Bring to a boil.
- Reduce heat. Simmer covered and stir occasionally until thick, about 1 1/2 hours.
