Meat And Vegetable Stew

  1. Brown meat (using no more than 2 tablespoons oil, if needed). Drain fat or oil completely.
  2. Add 2 to 3 cups water and sliced onion.
  3. Set aside vegetables.
  4. Add all other ingredients to meat and water in pan.
  5. Stir together, bring to boil, reduce heat, then cover and simmer for 1 hour, stirring occasionally.
  6. Add potatoes and carrots, if used.
  7. Add water to almost cover meat and vegetables.
  8. Cover; simmer for 30 minutes.
  9. Add other vegetables. Add water, if needed.
  10. Cover; simmer 15 to 30 minutes, or until vegetables are of desired tenderness.
