Sherry'S Favorite Swiss Steak
- 1 to 2 lbs round steak, tenderized
- 1 onion, chopped
- 1 bell pepper, chopped
- 1 clove garlic, chopped
- 1 stalk celery, chopped
- 2-4 Tbsp oil
- 2 small cans tomato sauce or 1 can stewed tomatoes
- 1 tsp Worchestershire sauce
- salt and pepper to taste
- 1 tsp sugar
- 1 can water if using tomato sauce
- flour
- Heat oil in pan.
- Cut steak into serving size pieces and lightly flour.
- Lightly brown meat in hot oil and remove from pan; place on paper towels to absorb oil.
- Add onion, pepper, garlic and celery to pan; fry until clear stirring to prevent sticking. Add sugar, tomato sauce, water and seasonings.
- Cook stirring constantly for about 5 minutes.
- Put steak in single layer in 9x13 pan, pour sauce over meat.
- Add additional water if sauce does not completely cover all meat.
- Cover pan with foil.
- Bake at 350u0b0 for about 1 hour.
- Serve over rice.
