Homemade Bread
- 2 c. scalded milk
- 2 heaping Tbsp. lard
- 2 pkg. dry yeast
- 2 Tbsp. salt
- 1 c. sugar
- flour (add gradually to make stiff batter)
- 1/4 c. lukewarm water
- 2 tsp. sugar
- Put yeast in lukewarm water with 2 teaspoons sugar; stir good. Let set while milk is scalding.
- Add lard to milk to melt while scalding milk.
- Add to sugar and salt; stir.
- Add enough cold water to make lukewarm.
- Add yeast and stir until yeast is well dissolved, then add flour, a few cups at a time.
- Knead down.
- Put in bowl with a little oil rubbed to bottom of bowl.
- Also rub oil on top of dough.
- Let rise until double.
- Cut out into loaves and shape.
- Put in bread tins.
- Let rise until doubled in size.
- Bake at 350u0b0 for 30 to 45 minutes.
- Butter loaves after removed from oven.
