Busy Day Vegetable Stew And Rice

  1. Bring water, ham, onion and garlic to boil in large saucepot. Reduce heat to low; cover and simmer 2 hours or until ham is tender.
  2. Remove ham; cool slightly.
  3. Cut ham from bones and return to pot; discard bones.
  4. Add corn, tomatoes, okra, basil, sugar, salt and pepper.
  5. Return to boil.
  6. Reduce heat to low and simmer, uncovered, for 10 minutes or until okra is tender, stirring occasionally.
  7. Serve with corn bread or French bread.
  8. Makes 4 servings.
