Triple Cheese Strata
- 8 oz. fresh mushrooms
- 1/2 c. chopped onion
- 1/2 tsp. marjoram
- 3 Tbsp. butter
- 6 slices day old bread
- 1/2 c. shredded Cheddar cheese
- 1/2 c. shredded Swiss cheese
- 1/4 c. grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 tsp. dry mustard
- 6 eggs, slightly beaten
- 1 1/2 c. milk
- 1/4 tsp. salt
- 1/2 tsp. pepper
- Using a 10-inch frying pan, melt one tablespoon butter over medium heat.
- Add mushrooms, onion and marjoram and cook until onion begins to turn clear.
- Remove from heat.
- Spread remaining 2 tablespoons butter over one side of day-old bread.
- Cut bread into 1/2-inch cubes leaving crusts on.
- Using casserole dish, layer half the bread cubes on the bottom of dish.
- Cover with the mushroom-onion mixture.
- Combine all three cheeses and dry mustard. Sprinkle over mixture.
- Top with remaining bread cubes.
- Mix milk, eggs, salt and pepper.
- Pour over the bread and cheese.
- Cover and refrigerate at least 3 hours or overnight.
