Baklava
- 1 lb. filo dough
- 1 lb. chopped walnuts
- 1/2 c. crushed zwieback crackers
- 1 tsp. cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp. cloves
- 2 Tbsp. sugar
- 1 lb. unsalted butter, melted
- Syrup
- Mix nuts, zwieback, cinnamon, cloves and sugar.
- Butter 13 x 10-inch pan.
- Place 1 sheet of filo dough in pan and then butter sheet with pastry brush.
- Continue until you have 7 to 8 sheets layered.
- Spread nut mixture evenly over layered dough, then continue to cover mixture with 1 sheet of filo dough at a time, buttering each sheet as it is placed on top.
- Continue until all pastry sheets are used.
- Cut into serving pieces.
- Pour remaining melted butter over pastry.
- Bake at 350u0b0 for 40 minutes or until golden brown.
- Pour syrup over baklava while hot.
- Let cool before serving.
