Matzo Meat Pie
- 1 large onion, peeled and chopped
- 3 Tbsp. oil
- 1 1/2 lb. ground lamb or beef
- salt and pepper to taste
- 1 tsp. cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp. allspice
- 2 Tbsp. raisins
- 2 Tbsp. pine nuts or walnuts
- 1 c. warm stock
- 5 to 6 matzo
- 1 egg, lightly beaten
- Saute onion in 2 tablespoons oil until golden.
- Add meat and spices.
- Stir and cook until browned, but moist (8 to 10 minutes). Add raisins.
- In small pan, saute nuts in 1 tablespoon oil.
- Place stock in small rectangular dish.
- Soak matzo to absorb liquid, 1 at a time.
- Press 2 or 3 soaked matzo into 9-inch pie plate, cutting it where necessary to fit.
- Place fillings on top.
- Cover with remaining matzo.
- Brush top with egg and bake at 375u0b0 for 30 minutes or until golden on top.
- Yield:
- 4 to 6 servings.
