Spaghetti The Hard Way (But Worth It)
- 4 to 6 cloves garlic
- 1.5 to 2 lb. hamburger
- 1 large onion, chopped
- 1 large bell pepper, chopped
- 1 can mushrooms (stems and pieces)
- 1 (16 oz.) can crushed tomatoes
- 1 (8 oz.) can tomato sauce
- 1 small can tomato paste
- 4 to 6 Tbsp. oregano
- 3 bay leaves
- 2 tsp. rosemary
- 3 tsp. sweet basil
- salt to taste
- pepper to taste
- 2 Tbsp. sugar
- 2 Tbsp. olive oil
- water
- Cook hamburger in skillet and drain.
- In a large Dutch oven, heat oil and cook onion and bell pepper.
- Add meat and garlic.
- Add tomatoes (sauce, paste and crushed).
- Add 2 cups water and mushrooms.
- Add spices, except sugar, and bring to a boil.
- Reduce heat and simmer 4 hours.
- Add sugar and continue to simmer 30 minutes.
- When simmering, check and stir frequently.
- Add water when necessary.
- Remove bay leaves and serve over pasta.
