Red Ring Pickles

  1. Soak cucumbers in water and lime for 24 hours.
  2. Wash real good, then soak for 3 hours in cold water.
  3. Drain it.
  4. Put in pot with 1 cup cider vinegar, alum and red coloring.
  5. Add enough water to cover; simmer for 2 hours.
  6. Drain off and throw away.
  7. Make syrup with 2 cups cider vinegar, 10 cups sugar, red hot cinnamon candy and 8 sticks of cinnamon.
  8. Bring to a boil and pour over rings.
  9. Let stand overnight, t hen drain syrup off into pot. Reheat syrup and pour back over rings; let set 24 hours.
  10. Repeat again.
  11. Then put in pot and let rings come to a boil.
  12. Jar up in hot sterile jars.
