One-Bowl Devil'S Food Cake
- 1 2/3 c. sifted cake flour
- 1/2 tsp. baking powder
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1/2 c. softened butter or margarine
- 1 tsp. vanilla extract
- 1 1/2 c. sugar
- 1 1/4 tsp. baking soda
- 1/2 c. unsweetened cocoa
- 1 c. milk
- 3 eggs
- Heat oven to 350u0b0.
- Grease and flour two 8 or 9-inch round cake pans or one 12 3/4 x 9 x 2-inch pan.
- Sift together flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt and cocoa into a medium size mixing bowl.
- Add butter, milk and vanilla.
- Beat 2 minutes at medium speed with an electric mixer or 300 strokes by hand.
- Scrape sides of bowl often.
- Add eggs and beat 2 minutes longer.
- Pour batter into prepared pans.
- Bake 8-inch cakes 35 to 40 minutes, 9-inch cakes 30 to 35 minutes and oblong cake 45 to 50 minutes until top springs back when lightly touched with finger.
- Cool on wire cake racks 10 minutes before removing from pan.
- Remove from pan and cool completely before frosting.
- Use frosting of your choice.
