Calico Bean Soup
- 1/3 to 1/2 c. dry navy beans
- 1/3 to 1/2 c. dry black-eyed peas
- 1/3 to 1/2 c. Great Northern beans
- 1/3 to 1/2 c. kidney beans
- 1/3 to 1/2 c. dry butter beans
- 1/3 to 1/2 c. black beans
- 1/3 to 1/2 c. pinto beans
- 1 c. chopped onion
- 1 c. chopped carrot
- 1 c. chopped celery
- meaty ham bone or 2 c. chopped ham
- 2 c. chopped tomatoes
- salt to taste
- pinch of baking soda
- Rinse and drain all beans and peas, black beans separately. In a big pot, cook beans and peas with ham bone for 3 hours.
- Cook black beans separately, then drain and add to other beans.
- Remove ham bone.
- Add veggies and salt.
- Cook another hour.
- Yummy!
