German Chocolate Cake And Icing

  1. Melt chocolate over boiling water; cool.
  2. Cream margarine and sugar until fluffy.
  3. Add egg yolks, 1 at a time and beat after each.
  4. Add melted chocolate and vanilla.
  5. Mix well.
  6. Sift together flour, salt, soda and baking powder.
  7. Add alternately with buttermilk to chocolate mixture; beat well.
  8. Fold in beaten egg whites.
  9. Line the bottom of 3 (9-inch) cake pans with brown paper. Grease and flour paper.
  10. Evenly divide the batter into the 3 pans.
  11. Bake at 350u0b0 for 30 to 40 minutes.
  12. Cool.
  13. Frost tops only. Frost with Coconut Pecan Frosting.
