Old Fashioned Butter Crunch

  1. Spread almonds in shallow pan.
  2. Toast in 350u0b0 oven until golden.
  3. Melt butter or margarine in large heavy saucepan; add sugar, corn syrup and water.
  4. Cook, stirring often, to hard-crack stage (300u0b0 on candy thermometer).
  5. Remove from heat; stir in 1 cup almonds.
  6. Pour quickly into 13 x 9 x 2-inch pan; cool completely. When set, turn out in one pieces onto wax paper.
  7. Spread half of the melted chocolate over top.
  8. Sprinkle with 1/2 cup almonds; let set.
  9. Turn candy over.
  10. Spread with remaining chocolate.
  11. Sprinkle with remaining almonds.
  12. Let stand until chocolate sets.
  13. Break into pieces.
