Frozen Hot Chocolate Recipe
- 3.5 ounces good-quality milk or dark chocolate (or a mix), coarsely chopped
- 2 teaspoons commercially prepared hot chocolate mix
- 1 1/2 tablespoons sugar
- 1 1/2 cups light cream
- 2 1/2 cups ice
- Whipped cream or ice cream, to top (optional)
- Place the coarsely chopped chocolate pieces in a double boiler over simmering water, stirring occasionally until melted. Add the cocoa and sugar, stirring constantly until thoroughly blended. Remove from heat and slowly add 1/2 cup of the light cream and stir until smooth. Cool to room temperature.
- In a blender place the remaining cup of cream, the room temperature chocolate mixture, and the ice. Blend on high speed until smooth and the consistency of a Slurpee or Frappuccino. Pour into glasses and serve with both spoons and straws. If desired, garnish with whipped cream, or for extra decadence, top it with a scoop of chocolate ice cream.
