Grandma Benson'S Swedish Toast
- 1/2 c. butter
- 1 c. sugar
- 1 egg
- 1/2 c. sour milk
- 1/2 tsp. baking soda
- 2 c. flour
- 1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1/2 c. chopped nuts (almonds or pecans)
- cinnamon sugar
- Preheat oven to 350u0b0.
- Cream butter and sugar.
- Add egg.
- Mix dry ingredients and add alternately with milk.
- Stir in nuts. Bake in a 9-inch square pan 35 minutes or until center springs back.
- Cool slightly.
- Reduce oven heat to 250u0b0.
- Slice into 1 1/2-inch slices and then in half.
- Place on a cookie sheet; sprinkle with cinnamon sugar and dry in the oven about 10 minutes. Turn off oven and let toast remain 20 minutes longer.
- Broil lightly until just browned.
- Cool.
- Store airtight.
- Good for dunking in coffee or cocoa.
