Whole Wheat Bran Bread
- 2 pkg. dry yeast
- 1/4 c. warm water
- 1/2 c. packed brown sugar
- 3 tsp. salt
- 2 1/2 c. hot water
- 1/4 c. soft shortening
- 4 c. whole wheat flour
- 1 c. unprocessed wheat bran
- 3 to 4 c. bread flour
- Dissolve yeast in warm water.
- Add
- brown
- sugar, salt, hot water, shortening, whole wheat flour, bran and 1 cup bread flour. Beat
- at medium speed for 3
- minutes.
- Add
- remaining flour gradually to form a stiff dough and
- knead
- until smooth and elastic.
- Let rise in greased bowl,
- covered
- loosely with plastic.
- When doubled in size, punch down and
- let
- rest
- 10 minutes.
- Place in 2 greased bread pans and bake
- at
- 375u0b0 for 30 minutes.
- Reduce
- heat
- to 350u0b0 and bake 10
- to
- 15
- more minutes.
