Cherry Bran Bread

  1. Stir together flour, baking powder, salt, nutmeg and 1/2 cup sugar.
  2. Set aside.
  3. Combine cereal and milk.
  4. Let stand 10 minutes.
  5. Beat in egg and oil.
  6. Stir in flour mixture.
  7. Set aside 2 tablespoons chopped cherries.
  8. Fold remaining cherries and 3/4 cup nuts in batter.
  9. Spread in greased 9 x 5 x 3-inch loaf pan. Heat margarine in small frypan until bubbly.
  10. Remove from heat. Stir in 1/4 cup sugar, 1/4 cup nuts and reserved cherries. Sprinkle over batter.
  11. Bake at 350u0b0 for about 1 hour.
  12. Cool 10 minutes.
  13. Remove from pan.
  14. Makes 1 loaf.
