French Market Soup
- 1/4 c. black beans*
- 1/4 c. red beans*
- 1/4 c. pinto beans*
- 1/4 c. Great Northern beans*
- 1/4 c. navy beans*
- 1/4 c. green split peas*
- 1/4 c. black-eyed peas*
- 1/4 c. lentils*
- 4 stalks celery, chopped
- 1 large ham hock or ham bone
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 bay leaf
- 2 tsp. salt or to taste
- 1 heaping tsp. dried basil
- 1/2 tsp. coarse black pepper
- 1 (28 oz.) can tomatoes
- 1/2 c. dry red wine
- 2 medium onions, chopped
- 1 lb. sweet Italian sausage
- 2 chicken breasts, cut in 1-inch chunks
- 1/2 c. chopped parsley
- pinch of sugar
- *Can substitute any combination to equal 2 cups.
