Fastnacht Kuecheles
- 6 c. flour
- 2 pkg. dry yeast
- 3/4 tsp. salt
- 1 c. sugar
- 3 eggs
- 1/4 c. Crisco
- 2 c. milk
- 3/4 tsp. nutmeg
- 2 Tbsp. lemon juice
- Mix about 3 cups flour, yeast, salt and nutmeg together in large bowl.
- Heat milk and Crisco together until lukewarm.
- Add to dry ingredients and beat 2 minutes at medium speed.
- Add eggs and lemon juice with more flour and beat 2 minutes.
- Stir in enough flour to make a soft dough.
- Knead well.
- Cover dough and let rise until double in bulk.
- Place on breadboard and roll about 1/2-inch thick.
- Cut in squares.
- Cover.
- Heat oil to 375u0b0.
- Fry a few at a time.
- (Pull edges of dough to make a thinner center before frying.)
- Drain on paper towel, then shake in a bag with sugar and cinnamon.
- Yield:
