Molasses Crinkles
- 3/4 c. soft shortening or butter
- 1 c. brown sugar
- 1 egg
- 1/4 c. dark molasses
- 2 1/4 c. flour
- 2 tsp. baking soda
- 1/4 tsp. salt
- 1/2 tsp. cloves
- 1 tsp. cinnamon
- 1 tsp. ginger
- Mix thoroughly shortening (butter), brown sugar, egg and molasses.
- Sift remaining dry ingredients together and stir into the creamed mixture.
- Mix well.
- Chill dough for 1 hour.
- Roll chilled dough into balls the size of large walnuts in the shell. Dip tops of balled dough into sugar.
- Place sugar side up 3 inches apart on ungreased baking sheet.
- Sprinkle each cookie with 2 or 3 drops of water to produce a crackled surface on the cookie.
- Bake cookies just until set but not hard.
- Bake approximately 10-12 minutes at 375 degrees.
- Makes 4 dozen 2 1/2 inch cookies.
