Molasses Crinkles

  1. Mix thoroughly shortening (butter), brown sugar, egg and molasses.
  2. Sift remaining dry ingredients together and stir into the creamed mixture.
  3. Mix well.
  4. Chill dough for 1 hour.
  5. Roll chilled dough into balls the size of large walnuts in the shell. Dip tops of balled dough into sugar.
  6. Place sugar side up 3 inches apart on ungreased baking sheet.
  7. Sprinkle each cookie with 2 or 3 drops of water to produce a crackled surface on the cookie.
  8. Bake cookies just until set but not hard.
  9. Bake approximately 10-12 minutes at 375 degrees.
  10. Makes 4 dozen 2 1/2 inch cookies.
