Italiano Meat Pie
- 1 deep dish pie shell
- 1/3 c. chopped green pepper
- 2 (8 oz.) cans tomato sauce
- 1 (4 oz.) can mushroom stems and pieces, drained
- 1/4 tsp. basil
- 1/3 c. Parmesan cheese
- 2 c. (8 oz.) shredded Mozzarella cheese, divided
- 1 1/2 lb. ground beef
- 3 Tbsp. water
- 1/4 tsp. oregano
- 1/4 tsp. garlic powder
- Preheat oven and cookie sheet to 400u0b0.
- In large skillet, brown beef.
- Drain well.
- Add green pepper and cook 2 minutes. Stir tomato sauce, mushrooms, water, oregano, basil and garlic powder.
- Simmer 10 minutes.
- Sprinkle half the Parmesan cheese over bottom of pie crust.
- Spread half the beef mixture over Parmesan cheese.
- Sprinkle with 1 cup Mozzarella cheese.
- Layer rest of beef and Parmesan cheese.
- Bake on preheated cookie sheet for 25 minutes.
- Sprinkle with remaining 1 cup Mozzarella cheese. Return to oven 5 minutes or until cheese melts.
- Let stand 10 minutes before serving.
- Makes 6 servings.
