Black Walnut Pie

  1. syrup, and salt, beating well. Place over rapidly boiling water and cook, stirring constantly, 5 minutes or until mixture thickens. Stir in walnuts and vanilla. Cream butter in top of a double boiler; gradually add sugar, beating well. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Add whipping cream, syrup, and salt, beating well.
  2. Place over rapidly boiling water and cook, stirring constantly, 5 minutes or until mixture thickens. Stir in walnuts and vanilla.
  3. Pour filling into pastry shell. Bake at 350u0b0 for 45 minutes or until set. Cool and serve with whipped cream, if desired.
  4. Note: 3/4 cup chopped hickory nuts may be substituted for chopped walnuts.
