Butterscotch-Fruit Squares
- 1/2 cup butter or margarine, softened
- 3/4 cup firmly packed brown sugar
- 1 egg
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 (6-ounce) package butterscotch morsels
- 3/4 cup mixed candied fruit
- 1/2 cup chopped walnuts
- Cream butter; gradually add sugar, beating well. Add egg and vanilla, beating until smooth. Combine flour, soda, and salt; stir into creamed mixture. Spread evenly in a lightly greased 13- x 9- x 2-inch baking pan. Bake at 350u0b0 for 15 minutes. Cool in pan 10 minutes.
- Spread filling evenly over crust. Combine remaining ingredients; sprinkle over filling. Bake at 350u0b0 an additional 15 minutes. Cool and cut into 2- inch squares.
