Anise Slices(Biscotti)
- 3 c. flour
- 3 tsp. baking powder
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1/2 c. butter
- 1 c. sugar
- 1 tsp. anise flavoring
- 3 eggs
- 1 c. thinly sliced blanched almonds (optional)
- Sift together flour, baking powder and salt.
- In large bowl, cream butter, sugar and anise.
- Beat in eggs, one at a time.
- Add flour mixture and almonds.
- Turn out onto a floured surface and knead until smooth.
- Divide dough in half.
- Shape each half into a roll about 1 1/2-inches in diameter.
- Place on lightly greased baking sheet.
- Bake at 350u0b0 until firm to the touch (30 to 35 minutes).
- Remove and cool slightly.
- While still warm, cut rolls into crosswise slices, 1/2-inch thick.
- Return to oven and bake until lightly toasted.
- Turn to other side and toast lightly.
- Cool completely.
- Store in a tightly covered tin.
