Marbled Brownies
- 1 c. butter or margarine, softened
- 1 1/2 tsp. vanilla extract
- 2 c. sugar
- 4 eggs
- 1 3/4 c. all-purpose flour
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 2 c. coarsely chopped nuts (walnuts)
- 2 sq. unsweetened chocolate, melted and cooled or 2 envelopes no-melt chocolate
- Cream the first three ingredients together until light and fluffy.
- Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each.
- Add flour and salt.
- Mix until blended.
- Stir in nuts.
- Divide batter in half and add chocolate to one-half.
- Drop batter alternately by heaping teaspoonfuls into greased and floured 13 x 9 x 2-inch pan. Press down with spoon to smooth top, then run knife through batter several times to marbleize.
- Bake in a moderate oven about 45 minutes.
- When cooled, spread with frosting.
- Makes approximately 24 (2-inch) squares.
