Belgian Beef
- 1/4 c. salad oil
- 2 lb. beef round, in 1-inch cubes
- 2 medium onions, sliced thin
- 1/8 tsp. nutmeg
- sprig of parsley
- 1/4 tsp. dried oregano
- 6 to 8 (2-inch) bread squares, spread with dry mustard
- 2 tsp. salt
- 1/2 tsp. sugar
- 1 1/2 tsp. vinegar
- 1/4 c. flour
- 1 1/2 c. hot water
- 1 c. beer
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- 1 bay leaf
- Heat 2 tablespoons salad oil in a large skillet. Brown beef, a few pieces at a time. Brown quickly and remove from pan. Add 2 tablespoons salad oil and onions. Brown well.
- Stir in remaining ingredients, except bread.
- Mix with beef in skillet and bring to a boil.
- Place in 2 to 2 1/2-quart casserole.
- Cover and bake at 325u0b0 until beef is tender.
