Dutch Apple Cake

  1. Sift flour, baking powder, salt and 3 tablespoons sugar.
  2. With pastry blender, cut in shortening until like coarse corn meal. With a fork stir in combined egg and milk.
  3. Spread dough in a greased 12 x 8 x 2-inch baking dish.
  4. On top, arrange apple slices, slightly overlapping in parallel rows, with pointed edges down.
  5. Sprinkle with combined cinnamon, nutmeg, 3 tablespoons sugar and butter.
  6. Bake 35 minutes at 400u0b0 or until apples are tender.
  7. Beat jelly with water to make syrup.
  8. Brush over fruit when done.
