Turkey Dressing
- 1 1/2 c. white cornmeal
- 2 Tbsp. all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp. baking powder
- 1/4 tsp. soda
- 1/4 tsp. salt
- 1 1/4 c. buttermilk
- 2 eggs
- 1 Tbsp. vegetable oil
- 1 Tbsp. shortening
- 2 stalks celery, diced
- 1 1/2 medium onions, grated
- 3 1/4 c. turkey broth
- 1 1/4 c. Stove Top mix
- 1 to 1 1/2 tsp. sage
- 1/2 tsp. garlic powder
- 1 tsp. white pepper
- 1 1/2 tsp. sugar
- Combine cornmeal, flour, sugar, baking powder, soda and salt in a large mixing bowl.
- Add buttermilk, eggs and oil and mix well.
- Place 1 tablespoon shortening in a 10-inch cast-iron skillet in a 450u0b0 oven for 3 to 4 minutes or until hot.
- Tilt pan evenly to distribute shortening.
- Pour batter into skillet.
- Bake at 350u0b0 for 25 minutes.
- Cool and crumble the cornmeal into a large bowl.
- Cook celery and onion in 1/4 cup broth in a skillet until tender.
- Add celery mixture, remaining broth and remaining ingredients to cornbread crumbs.
- Mix well.
- Spoon into a large greased baking dish.
- Bake for 40 minutes at 350u0b0.
