Sea Island Spice Cookies
- 3/4 cup butter or margarine
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 egg
- 1/4 cup molasses
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons baking soda
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 3/4 teaspoon ground allspice
- 3/4 teaspoon ground ginger
- Sifted powdered sugar
- Cream butter in a large mixing bowl; gradually add 1 cup sugar, beating until light and fluffy. Add egg and molasses; beat well.
- Sift together flour, soda, salt, and spices; add to creamed mixture, stirring well.
- Shape into 1-inch balls; place 2 inches apart on greased cookie sheets. Bake at 350u0b0 for 10 minutes or until lightly browned. Remove from cookie sheets, and cool completely on wire racks. Sprinkle with powdered sugar.
