Mama'S Yeast Rolls
- 1/2 c. lukewarm water
- 1 pkg. yeast
- 1 c. hot milk
- 6 Tbsp. solid shortening
- 1 egg, beaten
- 6 Tbsp. sugar
- 2 c. whole wheat flour
- 2 c. white flour
- 1 tsp. salt
- Sprinkle yeast over warm water and set aside.
- Combine milk and shortening, stirring until shortening is melted and mixture is lukewarm.
- Combine yeast mixture with milk and shortening.
- Add remaining ingredients and stir until all ingredients are combined. Knead until smooth.
- Let rise in warm (not hot) place, covered until double its size.
- Punch down, knead again and roll out onto floured surface.
- Cut into desired shape (round cut doubled over, balls, etc).
- Place on greased cookie sheet and let rise again. Bake at 400 degrees for 13 minutes.
- Delicious eaten while warm.
