Beef Stir-Fry
- 12 oz. rump, sirloin or fillet steak, sliced into thin strips
- 1 1/2 level Tbsp. cornstarch
- 1/4 tsp. Chinese 5 Spice
- 3 Tbsp. light or dark soy sauce
- 6 oz. broccoli
- 2 Tbsp. sesame oil
- 1 Tbsp. fresh ginger, chopped or 1/2 tsp. dry ginger
- 1 clove garlic, finely chopped
- 1 red pepper, sliced thin
- 1 onion, sliced
- 4 or 5 Tbsp. sherry
- 2 Tbsp. water
- Place steak in a bowl with cornstarch, 5 Spice and soy sauce. Mix and let sit 20 minutes to marinate.
- Meanwhile, slice florets from stalks, slice the stalks diagonally into thin oval shapes and chop florets in small heads.
- Heat oil in wok or large skillet. Add marinated steak, ginger and garlic and fry 3 to 4 minutes. Add pepper, broccoli and onion and fry 2 minutes.
- Add sherry and water.
- Cover and steam 1 minute.
- Serve immediately over rice.
