Old Fashion Vinegar Roll
- 3/4 c. cider vinegar
- 1 1/2 c. water
- 1 1/4 c. sugar, divided
- 4 Tbsp. cinnamon, divided
- 1 Tbsp. baking powder
- 2 c. sifted, enriched flour
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1/3 c. shortening
- 3/4 c. milk
- 4 Tbsp. butter or oleo, divided
- heavy sour cream
- Combine vinegar, 1 cup of the sugar and 2 teaspoons of the cinnamon.
- Stir over low heat until sugar dissolves.
- Cook over medium heat 20 minutes.
- Meanwhile, mix and sift flour, baking powder and salt.
- Put in shortening; stir in milk with fork until a soft dough forms.
- Roll out into rectangle.
- Dot with 2 tablespoons of butter.
- Roll up, starting at longer side.
- Cut crosswise into slices about 1 1/4-inch thick.
- Place out side up close together in deep baking dish.
- Dot with remaining butter and sprinkle over remaining sugar and cinnamon.
- Pour hot vinegar mixture over all.
- Bake at 375u0b0 for 30 to 40 minutes.
- Serve hot with heavy sour cream.
- Makes 8 servings.
