Country Fried Steak

  1. Cut steak into serving size pieces.
  2. Mix the next 3 ingredients.
  3. Dredge steak in flour mixture; lightly pound floured steak.
  4. Cook steak in hot oil in skillet until brown.
  5. Turn steak 1 time.
  6. Add sliced onions and water.
  7. Cover; reduce the heat. Simmer 30 minutes.
  8. Remove the steak; save drippings in skillet. Add 1/4 cup flour to drippings.
  9. Stir until smooth.
  10. Cook until brown.
  11. Gradually add milk and coffee; cook over medium heat. Stir constantly until thick.
  12. Stir in last 3 ingredients.
  13. Serve steak with gravy.
  14. Makes 4 to 6 servings.
