Country Fried Steak
- 1 1/2 to 2 lb. boneless steak
- 1/3 c. flour
- 1/4 tsp. salt
- 1/4 tsp. pepper
- 3 Tbsp. vegetable oil
- 2 small onions, sliced
- 1 c. water
- 1/4 c. flour
- 3/4 c. milk
- 1/4 c. brewed coffee
- 2 tsp. A.1.
- 1/4 tsp. salt
- 1/4 tsp. pepper
- Cut steak into serving size pieces.
- Mix the next 3 ingredients.
- Dredge steak in flour mixture; lightly pound floured steak.
- Cook steak in hot oil in skillet until brown.
- Turn steak 1 time.
- Add sliced onions and water.
- Cover; reduce the heat. Simmer 30 minutes.
- Remove the steak; save drippings in skillet. Add 1/4 cup flour to drippings.
- Stir until smooth.
- Cook until brown.
- Gradually add milk and coffee; cook over medium heat. Stir constantly until thick.
- Stir in last 3 ingredients.
- Serve steak with gravy.
- Makes 4 to 6 servings.
