- 1/2 c. (1 stick) butter (or margarine)
- 1 c. brown sugar, packed

- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 1 loaf unsliced French bread (ends removed)
- Powdered sugar
- Warm pancake syrup
- 6 large eggs

- Add brown sugar and cook until syrupy (don't worry if the brown sugar does not completely blend with the butter).
- Pour mixture into a 9x13-inch pan.
- Slice bread into 12 slices, about 1-inch thick, and place over sugar/butter mixture, completely lining the bottom of pan with slices.
- Beat eggs, milk and vanilla and pour over bread slices.
- Cover dish and refrigerate overnight.
- Uncover and bake in preheated 350-degree oven for 45 minutes.
- Sift powdered sugar over top when ready to serve.
- Pass the warmed syrup.
- OR skip the syrup and use your favorite "Simply Fruit" and sprinkle only a tiny bit of powdered sugar.
