Soft Molasses Cookies

  1. Combine sugar and melted shortening in mixing bowl; mix well. Add molasses and vanilla.
  2. Mix egg in mixture.
  3. Have ready the flour, mixed and sifted with salt, cream of tartar and spices. Dissolve the soda in hot water; add to molasses mixture.
  4. Mix well.
  5. Add sifted ingredients all at once.
  6. Stir to thoroughly mix.
  7. Cover the bowl; refrigerate overnight or longer to make rolling easy.
  8. When ready to bake on lightly greased cookie sheet, roll a portion of the dough and cut with a 3 or 3 1/2-inch cookie cutter.
  9. Place 2 inches apart.
  10. Bake at 400u0b0 for about 9 to 10 minutes.
  11. Remove immediately when baked.
