Apple Dumplings
- 1 c. water
- 1 c. sugar
- 1/8 tsp. cinnamon
- 1/8 tsp. nutmeg
- 2 drops red food coloring
- 2 Tbsp. butter
- 6 apples, peeled and sliced
- 2/3 c. shortening
- 2 c. flour
- 2 tsp. baking powder
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1/2 c. milk
- Place water, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg and food coloring in a pot.
- Cook until boiling; add butter.
- Peel and slice 6 apples. Mix flour, baking powder and salt.
- Cut in shortening.
- Add milk. Roll out onto lightly floured board.
- Cut dough into 6 (6-inch) squares.
- Place apples on dough and sprinkle generously with cinnamon, sugar and nutmeg.
- Also place a dab of butter on them. Fold corners into center and pinch seams closed.
- Place in a baking dish.
- Pour the sugar syrup over dumplings and sprinkle generously with sugar.
- Bake at 375u0b0 for 35 minutes.
