Grandmother Lowman'S Fruit Cake
- 9 or 10 eggs, lightly beaten
- 1 1/2 c. currants
- 1 lb. butter
- 1/2 lb. citron
- 1 lb. figs
- 1 c. grape juice
- 1 tsp. mace
- 1 1/2 lb. raisins
- 1 1/2 lb. sugar
- 1 1/2 lb. flour
- 1/4 lb. shelled walnuts
- 1 lb. dates
- 2 tsp. cinnamon
- 1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
- Cream butter; add sugar and cream thoroughly.
- Add eggs and mix.
- Use half the flour to dust the raisins, currants, citron, dates, figs and nuts.
- Mix spices with remaining flour.
- Add grape juice to creamed mixture and add remaining dry ingredients.
- Grease and line with brown paper a tube or loaf pan(s).
- Fill the pan(s) half full with mixture.
- Bake in a slow 225u0b0 oven for 3 hours or until done.
