Grandmother'S Chocolate Cake
- 1/2 c. butter or margarine, softened
- 1 c. sugar
- 1 c. packed brown sugar
- 2 eggs
- 1/2 c. milk
- 1 tsp. vanilla extract
- 2 c. all-purpose flour
- 1/3 c. baking cocoa
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1 tsp. baking powder
- 1 tsp. baking soda
- 1 c. boiling water
- confectioners sugar (optional)
- In a large bowl, cream the butter and sugars.
- Add eggs, milk and vanilla.
- Beat well.
- Combine flour, cocoa, salt, baking powder and soda.
- Add to creamed mixture and mix well.
- Stir in water. Mix until smooth (batter will be thin).
- Pour into greased and floured 13 x 9 x 2-inch pan.
- Bake at 350u0b0 for 35 to 40 minutes or until cake tests done.
- Cool on wire rack.
- Dust with confectioners sugar, if desired.
