Onion Bread
- 3/4 c milk
- 2 pkg. dry yeast
- 1 pkg. onion soup mix
- 1/2 c. sugar
- 1/2 c. margarine
- 1/2 c. warm water
- 1 egg, beaten
- 4 c. unsifted white flour
- Scald milk.
- Stir in soup mix.
- Blend well. Stir in sugar and margarine.
- Mix until margarine melts.
- Cool to lukewarm. Sprinkle yeast over warm water.
- When dissolved, add yeast mixture, egg and 2 cups flour to the lukewarm milk mixture.
- Beat until smooth.
- Add remaining flour to make a stiff batter.
- Cover tightly and chill at least 2 hours.
- Cut dough in half.
- Flatten and press into 2 well-greased 9-inch round pans.
- Brush with melted margarine.
- Cover and let rise in warm place until doubled in size, about 45 minutes.
- Bake at 375u0b0 for about 35 minutes. Remove from pans and cool on racks.
- Brush again with melted margarine while still hot.
