Chocolate Marble Loaf Cake
- 1/3 c. shortening
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 2 tsp. baking powder
- 2/3 c. milk
- 1 (1 oz.) sq. unsweetened chocolate, melted
- 2 Tbsp. hot water
- 1 c. sugar
- 2 c. sifted cake flour
- 1/4 tsp. salt
- 3 stiffly beaten eggs
- 1/4 tsp. soda
- Stir the shortening to soften.
- Gradually add sugar and cream together until light and fluffy.
- Add vanilla.
- Sift flour, baking powder and salt together 3 times; add to creamed mixture alternately with milk, a small amount at a time.
- Beat until smooth after each addition.
- Fold in egg whites.
- Combine chocolate, water and soda; add to 1/2 the batter.
- Alternate light and dark batters by spoonfuls in paper-lined 10 x 5 x 3-inch loaf pan.
- Bake at 350u0b0 for about 60 minutes.
- Cool and frost with creamy chocolate frosting.
